How Would Angela Carter Feel?

How would Angela Carter feel if she woke up in today's world? The world where feminism is at its peak, and women fight for equality everyday. How would she feel to see women standing up to their abusers, marching in streets, and speaking out for their beliefs? A world where we can finally announce the first female Vice President. We read her stories that show the distaste that men have poured around women. A world where sex is more important that love. How would Angela Carter feel about a world where women are no longer wanting to be seen as objects? We are finally in a time where women are standing up for themselves, and we preach for our equality. We can finally say that we have a voice, and it is being heard, but how would Angela Carter feel if she saw the noise that covered our voices? How would she feel if she found out that a man who raped a woman got less time in jail than someone who stole a candy bar from a convenient store? How would she feel if she heard people tell that woman that it was her fault because she showed skin that was too much to handle? A world where women still have to hold their keys in-between their fingers, jump into their cars, and carry pepper spray for their safety? Where an innocent "hello" from a man could be our death certificate. How would she feel? Because her stories show us that men can truly be monsters, and I am starting to believe that she is right. Maybe this man will never turn into a prince, and maybe that scares me too. It scares me to know that I will maybe one day have to raise my daughter in this world, or even worse, raise a son. A son who might turn into a monster or be viewed as one, and I cannot tell you that Angela Carter would disagree. She would love the progression, but she would hate the execution. We are the daughters of Angela Carter, and I know that she did not raise us to let men turn us into dirt. We were built to be seeds that grew into endless fields of beauty, not the fertilizer for a man's garden. We build our own gardens this time, so we can raise our daughters to detect the weeds from the flowers.
